Press release
Camden and Islington Shared Services connects 14
sites with new network from ntl:Telewest
Business
- ntl:Telewest Business’ IPVPN solution
helps staff to work remotely
21 June,
2007. ntl:Telewest Business, the supplier of communications
services to the public and private sectors, has announced that IT
services provider Camden & Islington ICT Shared Services has
deployed an internet protocol virtual private network (IPVPN) to
connect 14 sites across North London. The contract will enable its
employees to access all national and local NHS applications from
both remote and home offices.
The Camden &
Islington ICT Shared Services is an ICT service provider to Camden
Primary Care Trust (PCT), Islington PCT and Camden and Islington
Mental Health and Social Care Trust, providing connectivity to over
100 sites. These sites include GP practices, healthcare
clinics and community hospitals over ntl:Telewest Business’
network.
Camden PCT, Islington PCT
and Camden and Islington Mental Health and Social Care Trust
currently employ more than 2,000 members of staff including nurses,
therapists and consultants. The IPVPN, connecting all the remote
small office and home office (SOHO) sites, will enable staff to
benefit from flexible working capabilities and ensure seamless
access to headquarters’ resources, as well as national and local
applications. In addition, the IPVPN will ensure the highest level
of security, which is critical when protecting NHS information and
patients’ data.
“Since we started working
with ntl:Telewest Business three years ago, the company has helped
us to better engage with our stakeholders and improve our
communications services. Adding the IPVPN will further aid our
efforts to excel in the NHS Connecting for Health programme.
It will significantly improve the speed of access and levels of
connectivity for staff who would normally only have a dial-up
connection to the Trust’s resources,” said Steve Guise, Senior
Technical Project Manager, Camden & Islington ICT Shared
Services.
Christopher Small, Director for Public Sector,
ntl:Telewest Business, said: “Since launching NHS Connecting for
Health in 2005, one of the Government’s key aims has been to enable
healthcare professionals nationwide to access patient information
safely and securely. In our partnership with Camden
& Islington ICT Shared Services, ntl:Telewest Business hopes
that it will facilitate staff with the technology needed to work
more efficiently and help ensure that patients are receiving a
high-level of healthcare, wherever they are in the area.”
