Bath Travel looks to grow internet operations and speed

- Bournemouth-based agency links 67 sites across southern
England with virtual private network (VPN) to access corporate
data
- Increased broadband dramatically speeds up internal
communications and further improves business
efficiency
- Staff delighted with faster access to booking details
and offers
26 July, 2007. Bournemouth-based travel agent
Bath Travel has turned to ntl:Telewest Business, part of the Virgin
Media group, to help grow its internet capabilities and share
information in a faster, more secure environment.
Bath Travel, which employs 375 agents in 67
sites stretching from Devon to West Sussex, is a fast-growing
provider of holidays and other leisure and business travel
services. When the company found its existing broadband network
could no longer support ever increasing amounts of data traffic
across its network, it brought in ntl:Telewest Business to provide
a vastly improved communications capability.
By installing a 2Mb network, Bath Travel can
enjoy the free flow of data between agents and customers with the
ability to scale up the amount of bandwidth required as the company
grows. Previously, Bath Travel found its network struggled to cope
with the amount of data required as the company rapidly expanded.
With the internet forming an increasingly important channel for
sales and customer service, being able to support peaks of data
traffic flow was critical.
“Once the new network was installed we saw a
massive improvement in speed and reliability of communications,”
said Len Clarke, Director and General Manager of Bath Travel. “We
can now share and access essential information – such as
fast-changing flight details or package offers – in even quicker
time. It has made such a difference.”
Clarke continued: “We saw around ten per cent
business growth in the last year. To sustain the added traffic and
the increasingly important medium of the web we need a reliable
communications network with bandwidth that can expand as we grow.
The VPN allows much faster and more secure access to critical
corporate and travel information, which means our customer
experience is even better than before, too.”
Gerry Arthurs, Head of Business Markets in the
South East for ntl:Telewest Business, said: “Fast, reliable
communications are critical to business success, especially in a
highly competitive market such as the travel industry. Being able
to respond more quickly to customer requests and source the latest
offers and information in even shorter time enable Bath Travel to
be one step ahead of its competition. As ntl:Telewest Business
rolls out its national network upgrades across the country, we now
offer the most technologically advanced communications network of
any service provider in the UK.”
