Hounslow PCT teams up with ntl:Telewest Business to provide
residents with a 21st century health centre
- Largest primary care centre in the UK to use IP Multimedia
- Improved standards of healthcare for 635,000 residents
14, December 2006. ntl:Telewest Business, the supplier of
communications services to the public and private sectors, is
enabling Hounslow Primary Care Trust (PCT) to provide better
healthcare in the community. The PCT is responsible for
delivering all NHS primary care, including GPs, dentists and
opticians, to the area’s 635,000 residents. It also supplies
community-based services such as health visitors, dieticians and
occupational therapy. The installation of ntl:Telewest
Business’ IP Multimedia in Hounslow’s new primary care centre will
facilitate staff to work more efficiently and effectively,
resulting in a higher level of healthcare for patients.
The 21st century health centre, due to open in February 2007,
was designed to modernise and develop more innovative ways of
delivering healthcare. In a new building containing up-to-the
minute technology and purpose-built rooms for clinics, IP
Multimedia will enable flexible working for staff, located both
within the building and off-site, and result in significant cost
benefits. The solution adds visual options, instant
messaging, collaboration and presence indicators to IP telephony,
ensuring that staff have improved integrated working capabilities
and real-time access to up-to-date patient information.
“With our 21st century health centre, Hounslow PCT hopes to
provide patients with an exceptional standard of healthcare.
The building will house services concentrating on integrated,
child-focused working. These include GP practices, child and
adolescent mental health services and social care,” said Graeme
Hollocks, IT Manager, Hounslow PCT. “With such an innovative
facility, we felt that ntl:Telewest Business’ IP Multimedia
offering fitted absolutely with the model of delivery.
ntl:Telewest Business has changed the way in which our staff work,
improving their efficiency and facilitating better-informed,
improved patient care.”
“In the health sector, offering patients the highest standard of
treatment is of the utmost importance,” said Christopher Small,
Director for Public Sector, ntl:Telewest Business. “In light of the
Connect for Health (CfH) programme, health professionals are
rapidly realising the benefits to healthcare of utilising
technology. Providing staff with the latest applications,
which facilitate collaborative working, real-time information
access and increased communication capabilities, means they can do
their job to the best of their ability. Staff can now have a wealth
of resources at their fingertips and focus their attentions on
looking after their patients.”
