Arena Housing chooses Telewest Business to provide IPVPN
network to aid integration
June 24 2004. Telewest Business, the supplier of broadband
communications to the public and private sector markets, has been
chosen by Arena Housing to provide an IPVPN network to improve
communication between their 12 offices.
Arena Housing looks after 11,000 homes for around 30,000 people
predominately in Chester, Halton, Sefton, St. Helens, Warrington,
Wigan, Wirral and Vale Royal as well as their head office in
Liverpool.
Due to the number of sites, Arena Housing was spending a huge
amount on inter site calling and wanted to reduce the costs of
these calls between their offices. As well as voice calls they
wanted each office to have access to a central network in order for
all employees to access information and applications.
The Telewest IPVPN service allows voice, video conferencing,
mission critical and standard applications to run successfully over
one designated network. This enables costs to be reduced whilst
achieving a far superior network in the process. The network is
scaleable, therefore as Arena Housing increase in size; the network
can be increased easily and effectively.
Phil Lunn, head of data and internet services at Telewest
Business said: “ Arena Housing had a very common problem. The costs
of inter site calling and data transmission can be extremely high
so utilising our IPVPN service allows them to link all their sites
up on one common network, lowering the cost of calls and
application access.”
Colin Young, Head of IT, Arena Housing said: “ We provide
housing facilities to more than 30,000
people so it is important that we can provide one integrated
experience for our customers when they work with us. Reducing cost
was obviously an important factor in choosing Telewest’s IPVPN
product, as we knew it would be an effective way of linking all our
sites together.
Ensuring speed and accuracy of service was essential to
streamline all our communications and Telewest were able to provide
this effectively.”
As well as developing, managing and maintaining houses and flats
for general needs housing provision, Arena Housing has established
specific expertise in a number of niche areas. These include
provision for older people, supported housing for vulnerable
tenants, low cost home ownership and the implementation of
far-reaching regeneration programmes.
