Leading UK construction company builds
for the future with ntl:Telewest
Business
- Construction group Graham consolidates data
connectivity at 23 sites using IPVPN circuits on the ntl:Telewest
Business £13 billion fibre network
- Network upgrade delivers improved data
resilience, management and security, and saves cost
- IPVPN solution offers flexibility to scale
bandwidth up to 155 Mbps and move locations inline with Graham’s
business needs
29 May, 2008. Graham, the multi-skilled
construction, facilities management and project investment.
company, has invested in an advanced digital communications network
upgrade from ntl:Telewest Business, part of Virgin Media Group. The
network will link the Graham Head Office in Dromore to regional
offices in the Republic of Ireland, England and Scotland and to
their construction and facilities management sites operating
throughout the UK and Ireland.
Graham’s network investment is being driven by a
need to deliver resilience, continuity and support to the business
by enabling huge volumes of data to be moved quickly between
offices and sites. In simple terms, it will allow teams of people
across the group to access and share information. For a company
with a current turnover of £217 million and over 800 employees,
this investment will help to support structured growth as the group
goes through a sustained period of development within each
region,
The new advanced network solution will deliver
improved data resilience and network management by linking each of
Graham’s regional offices and multiple site locations back into
it’s head office in Dromore, Northern Ireland. All internet
connectivity will be provided via a 10 Mbps managed connection from
the headquarter office, improving security by enabling access to be
managed centrally.
Graham, one of the largest companies in Northern
Ireland, is an organisation that undertakes high profile building,
civil engineering and facilities management projects across many
infrastructure sectors.
A small selection of current building projects
includes the refurbishment of Belfast City Hall, new government
offices/civic centre for Newtownabbey Borough Council, a series of
care homes for City of Edinburgh Council and school projects at all
levels within Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland and
Scotland. Current civil engineering projects include DBFO1
(Westlink) in Belfast, road, public realm and Park and Ride
Facilities in Scotland and the building of a landmark bridge over
the River Liffey in Dublin.
Graham also has a diverse range of Facilities
Management contracts at various stages throughout the UK and
Ireland, and having been involved in Public-Private partnership
since its inception in the early 1990s, Graham Investment Projects
has established itself as a market leader in the education,
healthcare and infrastructure sectors.
“Because of this wide range of complex projects
across the group and the geographical spread involved, data is a
critical asset to Graham. Each operation needs access to large
volumes of data. Consolidating connectivity from multiple sites
through IPVPN connections on the ntl:Telewest Business fibre
network will provide rock solid resilience and deliver improved
data management and security,” said Steven Creighton, Group Finance
Director, Graham.
“Graham is a world class Construction, Asset
Management and Project Investment company that needs a world class
communication infrastructure to support its business. IPVPN
connections from remote sites into the national ntl:Telewest
Business fibre network back to its headquarters, provide a secure
solution that has sufficient flexibility to develop inline with
Graham’s business” said David Armstrong, Business Sales Manager for
Northern Ireland, ntl:Telewest Business.
Graham is using secure Internet Protocol Virtual
Private Network (IPVPN) data connections from ntl:Telewest Business
to link its head office with regional offices and construction
sites throughout the UK. ntl:Telewest Business has connected 15
sites to date with a further eight sites to follow over the next
three months.
The new IPVPN connections replace ADSL and
leased line connections direct to the internet with secure IPVPN
connections back to the headquarter office operating at data speeds
of between 512 kbps and 2 Mbps, depending on the size of the remote
operation. IPVPN creates secure dedicated data circuits over
ntl:Telewest Business’ £13 billion next-generation fibre
network.
IPVPN services can also be easily managed, for
example, to introduce new sites as Graham secures new construction
or infrastructure projects, change access bandwidths up to 155 Mbps
or move sites, without the high costs or delays traditionally
associated with connection oriented services, such as ADSL or
leased lines.
