million Workplace Recovery Centre

than 50,000 business in the North East region

delivers seamless access to data for customers
21 August, 2007. ntl:Telewest Business,
part of Virgin Media, today announced that it has supplied high
speed data connectivity to Business Continuity Centres, part of
Onyx Group, the North East’s leading technology solutions company,
for its new Workplace Recovery Centre in the Team Valley,
Gateshead.
The Workplace Recovery Centre has been built
at a cost of £2 million, creating 10 new jobs, and is the North
East region’s largest business continuity centre. The centre will
extend Onyx Group’s workplace recovery facilities in
Newcastle-upon-Tyne and on Teesside.
The Workplace Recovery Centre provides a
managed workspace for up to 200 people, IT hardware and software,
and access to backup data in order to deliver a seamless response
in the event of a disaster.
ntl:Telewest Business has supplied a high
speed fibre connection to link the new Workplace Recovery Centre in
the Team Valley with Onyx Group’s Databanx hosting facility on
Tyneside. This operates in conjunction with other connections to
ensure that the Workplace Recovery Centre would continue to operate
in the event of a connection failing.
The ntl:Telewest data connection is a high
bandwidth connection which will copy data from a customer’s back-up
server at the hosting facility in the event of a disaster. This
means that companies taking services in the Workplace Recovery
Centre do not have to set-up their own IT network as they can just
access their servers using this existing infrastructure.
“Regardless of the nature or size of an
organisation Onyx Group now has the resources, expertise and
infrastructure required to provide a complete data compliance
solution. The data link from ntl:Telewest Business ensures that
customers can access their critical data quickly and seamlessly,”
said Neil Stephenson, CEO, Onyx Group.
“Data is critical to business effectiveness
for most organisations. Executing a workplace recovery plan is a
traumatic event for any business, but Onyx Group aims to provide a
complete disaster recovery plan, including equipment and
facilities. This ensures that business can be up and running
quickly,” said Alan Worthing, Business Sales Manager, ntl:Telewest
Business.
Data continuity is a critical business issue
and is increasingly an issue of compliance for public sector
organisations following the publication of the Civil Contingencies
Act 2004, and for businesses in the finance, food, insurance and
professional service sectors.
