edNET and Telewest Business sign contract to build £1.2m
Datacentre
June 14 2004. Telewest Business, the supplier of broadband
communications to public and private sector markets, has been
chosen as provider of choice to aid edNET build a £1.2 million data
centre in Newbridge, near Edinburgh.
edNET, the leading business class ISP, is building a
carrier-grade co-location facility in Scotland, due to be completed
in August 2004. Telewest Business has been working with edNET for
more than seven years and has been providing them with a number of
services including private circuits, LAN Extensions and voice
services. This latest deal provides a high bandwidth fibre optic
connection between edNET’s core network at an existing PoP (Point
of Presence) in Edinburgh and the new datacentre in Newbridge.
Aydin Kurt-Elli, CEO of edNET, said: “ We have had an excellent
working relationship with Telewest for a number of years. For this
critical part of the edNET datacentre project, we were delighted to
turn to Telewest to provide our fibre optic connection.”
The progressive use of WDM (Wave Division Multiplexing) and
Metro Ethernet over fibre means that this can be provided cost
effectively. Once the facility is built, edNET will move its entire
technical systems and support team from its corporate HQ in Leith
to Newbridge.
Tony Grace, managing director, Telewest Business said: “This is
a huge project for edNET. Connectivity is one of the most important
factors in a project of this size so the use of Telewest’s high
bandwidth fibre optic connection allows edNET high capacity access
to existing networks right from the start. We also aim to provide a
first class service to edNET and build on our relationship with
them by providing excellent customer liaison, reliable service and
support.“
The Data Centre is being constructed in a fast growing area,
which has a 10-year development plan in place to build a new
business park. Telewest Business already has a strong network in
place in this area and hopes to work with edNET in the future to
supply additional services.
